Great that your finally getting setup with your hosting account! FTP, also known as File Transfer Protocol allows you to transfer files from one host to another over the internet. Using FTP is fairly simple and doesn't require any programming skills, only the willingness to learn the interface of the FTP program you select. You'll be required to download and setup the program, but once you do you'll be able to seemlessly transfer files to and from your hosting account.
  • Filezilla FTP Client - This program is an excellent choice and comes free with regular updates and lots of useful options. It isn't as pretty as the others but it gets the job done.
  • Fire FTP (Mozilla Browser) - If your looking for something thats easy to use with minimal setup you might want to check this out. The only downside is that is specifically built only for the FireFox browser.
  • Smart FTP Client - While this client is not free this happens to be the most popular one we use here at PacificHost and is one we would certainly recommend to you if you plan on being a frequent FTP user.

While these aren't all the availiable FTP Clients these are the ones that we recommend you use, however you are welcome to use whichever FTP client you like. If you need more assistance you can check out our list of Video Tutorials for FTP Programs here.
