The latest releases available within the stable branch will be used.

In order to ensure the upgrade goes smoothly please review your sites for compatibility with PHP's 5.5.x branch. Incompatibilities between PHP's versions 5.3 and 5.4 can be found through the URLs below:

http://php.net/manual/en/migration54.php
http://php.net/manual/en/migration55.php

We have backups on hand for all databases in the event of any issues with the upgrade process. For more details on MySQL and specifically MySQL 5.6 series, please review the changelog:http://dev.mysql.com/doc/relnotes/mysql/5.6/en/index.html

Most scripts should run normally without issues on MySQL 5.6, however this will also imply having MySQL-dependent connectors such as python, java or the ruby gem updated, so if you are running any scripts which are older or not up-to-date, please ensure to obtain the most current copy of the script from the script development site so that the script will function properly with the new MySQL 5.6 release. There are following changes in mysql 5.6 release:

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/relnotes/mysql/5.6/en/news-5-6-16.html

MySQL users that were last updated more than approximately 6 months ago are likely using the 16 bytes (old, deprecated) password hash, so if your script cannot establish the connection with the database once MySQL gets upgraded you'll need to consider doing the following:

1) Change your CPanel password if you use the CPanel username for ANY mysql connections (it doesn't matter to what - you can even set the same one, however it'll be picked up in a 41 bytes hash once you do it);

2) Change your MySQL users password if you haven't done so in the past ~6months for every user that you use (and delete the users that are unused) - this can be done from CPanel -> MySQL databases -> Clicking on the mysql user and filling the needed fields. Sometime you need to remove mysql user and re-add same user and password and allow mysql grant privileges else your site will show database connection issue.

Please report us if any issue at support@pacifichost.com. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

FrontPage Extensions to be disabled by cPanel
Posted by Sarwan Jassi on 19 March 2015 03:41 AM
Hello,

This email is for information purposes only.  If you are currently utilizing Microsoft FrontPage Extensions on your hosting account, the information below will pertain to you.

On Sunday March 22, 2015, all FrontPage Extensions will no longer be available in cPanel and any attempt to connect to the server with FrontPage software will cease to work.

Microsoft reached the official end of life for FrontPage on June 30, 2006. Support for FrontPage Extensions ended on February 26, 2008. While FrontPage Extensions have allowed customers to continue publishing since these dates, cPanel has decided it will no longer offer this feature.

You may continue to create your website with FrontPage; however, you will need to find an alternate method of uploading your content to the server. We have listed some options for you below. Additional features within the actual software which rely on FrontPage Extensions will no longer work on Pacifichost servers. These features and functionalities include:

•             Locking files so that only one author at a time can modify a page
•             Creating, deleting, and renaming webs and sub-webs
•             Automatically updating hyperlinks when you rename files
•             Automatically generating a list of hyperlinks
•             Style Sheet links to multiple files
•             Incorporating database access in a web
•             Enabling other Microsoft Office 2000 applications to save directly to a Web server
•             Hit Counters
•             Registration form handler
•             Search form
•             Discussion form handler
•             Confirmation Field

ALTERNATE TOOLS

FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

FileZilla is an open source FTP software program distributed free of charge under the terms of the GNU General Public License.  It is available for Windows, Linux and Mac users. To download FileZilla, please visit: https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?show_all=1

Web Authoring

WordPress

Many sites now use WordPress for their Content Management System (CMS). In fact, it is available to you through your control panel under the ‘Softaculous’ section.

If you need assistance with any of the options above, would like information on other solutions, or if you just have questions, our customer support team is happy to help. You may contact us by email at support@pacifichost.com.
